Werner Icking Music Archive (formerly: GMD Music Archive)
Contains a huge selection of works by various composers. Contains mostly string and choral works, but there is one Concert Band piece which requires a Bag Pipe. There is also something for the clarinet and flute player, so long as you have friends that play string instruments also. You should really read the instructions, link located at top left hand of page, for instructions on how to download music from this page.

    Musica Viva
One of the best websites I've seen for free downloadable sheet music. Scores are indexed by instrument, ranging from woodwinds, brass, strings, small ensembles, piano, etc… All music available to download in GIF image format. While you're there, check out the home page, for other music related items not related to sheet music.

    Music by Ulrich Nehls
Be sure to read the top of the page before performing or recording any of his music, other than that, his scores are free to download. He has a few small brass ensemble pieces to offer, as well as Jazz and Big Band music. All music downloadable in zippes-up PDF format. There are also MIDI files to go with the PDF files in you wish to have a listen.

Music for the Nation: American Sheet Music, 1870-1885
There is something to the tune of 22,000 pieces available to download from here is both GIF and TIFF format. There is everything from piano, orchestra, and brass band music. Unless you really know your composers and titles, I suggest doing a keyword search on the type of instrumentation you're looking for.

Music of most of the great classical composers can be found here (ie. Bach, Borodin, Brahms, Debussy, Mozart, Pachabel, Satie, etc….). Music is indexed by composer, genre, and instrumentation. Scores range from solo instrumentation to small groups. Scores are available for download in either Sibelius's Scorch format, or in Adobe's Acrobat Reader format. Well worth a visit.

Nissimo offers free classical sheet music. You will find some of the most popular classical compositions at this site, music written by the most famous composers in the western music history. You'll find the free scores that you are looking for right here.

There is no wind music to be found here, only piano music, but I've included it because a number of people in this world probably had their first music lessons on piano. Titles are sorted by both category and alphabetically. Majority of pieces are Classical, but there is also an offering of Ragtime and Christmas tunes. Music available to download in PDF format.
